Italian Under-21 boss Gigi Di Biagio believed Roma could challenge for the top three this season – but not start the campaign in such blistering fashion.
The Giallorossi won their opening 10 Serie A games, only finally dropping points in the last round given their 1-1 draw at Torino.
“I didn’t think that Roma would be able to reach this level,” the former capital midfielder told Rete Sport when asked about the League leaders.
“I always thought that they would need to have a perfect season to just arrive in the top three during this campaign.”
Roma brought in another new Coach during the summer when Rudi Garcia was netted from Ligue 1 side Lille.
“Garcia understood that he didn’t need to reconstruct the squad, but just provide a serene environment in the changing room,” Di Biagio continued.
“The squad always had technical value, they were just looking for a way to play football. This Coach has finally recreated the right enthusiasm within the squad.”
