The midfielder has been a regular in the Giro Azzurro for the last two years, but he is taking nothing for granted ahead of Brazil 2014.

“It is very gratifying to play for your country, it is the dream of every player,” the 20-year-old told RMC Sport.

“I want to go to the World Cup with Italy, but I know that there is tough competition. I will do my all to convince the Coach to call me up.”

The former Pescara playmaker, winner of four caps to date with one goal, was also asked about his role models in the game.

“I loved Alessandro Del Piero when I was growing up, he wrote history for Juventus and the national side,” he added.

“But, as I grew up, I also closely followed Andrea Pirlo – a phenomenal player.”
