The Manchester City midfielder has claimed that he nearly signed for the Nerazzurri six years ago, and went on to praise Roberto Mancini.

“I was offered the chance to go to Inter when I was at Monaco,” he told Extra Time.

“Mancini followed me from 2007, and wanted me in Milan, but I chose Barcelona instead because it was always my dream to play for them.

“Mancini helped me a lot when I arrived in England. He taught me so much and is one of my best friends in football.”

The Manchester City man also spoke of his former teammate Mario Balotelli – who left the Etihad Stadium for Milan in January.

“I was sorry when Mario left. Here in England he was attacked from anything.”
