Kevin Prince Boateng feels the four-match ban handed to former Milan teammate Philippe Mexes is justified.
The Frenchman was handed the suspension on Monday for his actions in the 3-2 loss at Juventus. The player was sent-off, but he was also punished via TV evidence for punching Giorgio Chiellini in the game.
“Mexes is one of my best friends,” the midfielder told Italia 1. “He always wants to give his best, but he certainly exaggerated.
“The four-match ban is right. He has to calm down a bit, even if you can lose your head in games such as that one.”
The defeat in Turin means the Diavolo are already 13 points behind leaders Roma after just seven games this term.
“I didn’t expect such a gap,” the Ghana international added. “They have started the season poorly, but I know them.
“The squad is strong and they’ll do well. We started in the same way last season, but ended up in the Champions League.”
Boateng is no longer with the San Siro outfit after he joined Schalke late in the summer transfer window.
“I asked to leave, for tactical and other reasons. Because of racism? I’ve already said and I’ll repeat that Italy is not a racist country.
“There are only some idiots who go to the stadium and decide to entertain themselves in that way…”
