The agent of Eduardo Vargas says the player will return to Napoli in January – but he doesn’t know whether he will stay.

The Chilean international is currently on loan with Gremio after scoring just three goals in 28 games for the Azzurri following his arrival in January 2012.

“The contract with Gremio will expire in December,” the 23-year-old’s agent, Cristian Ogalde, told Calcio Napoli Live.

“After that we will be forced to return to Naples as they own his contract. However, I haven’t been in touch with Napoli.

“Vargas is a professional, 100 per cent, and he would return with great desire. The most important thing for him is that he gets to play.”

Vargas struggled to get regular games under previous boss Walter Mazzarri. “Rafa Benitez is a great Coach,” added Ogalde.

“I know him and I admire his work. Benitez could be the Coach to give Edu the faith that he needs to triumph in Europe.

“I want to remind everyone that we are talking about Chile’s most prolific striker, he has scored six goals in his last six games.”
