Olivier Giroud and Mikel Arteta admit Arsenal played “probably our best 45 minutes” against Napoli.

The Gunners came flying out of the blocks in the first half, scoring twice in the opening 20 minutes to beat the Partenopei 2-0.

“We decided to start strong and that’s what we did. We wanted to score early in the game, so after we could play our game like we usually do, keep the ball and we did well tonight,” Giroud told Sky Sports UK.

“Considering we were playing against a top team, it was probably our best 45 minutes since I’ve been here,” added Arteta.

“We were very intense from the start, really good on the ball, winning the ball back really early and playing as a team efficiently.

“For us the clean sheet is really important. We’ve got the talent upfront to score the goals, so everyone is working really hard and there’s great solidarity in the team to win the ball back quickly. When we win back the ball in the final third, we are really dangerous.”

Arsenal are top of Champions League Group F with six points, followed by Borussia Dortmund and Napoli on three.

“It’s only early stages, we haven’t won anything yet and there’s still a lot of work to do. We can improve and have a lot of injuries. There’s a lot of hunger around the team and we want to keep winning.”
