Italy’s hopes of calling up Mauro Icardi have vanished, as the Inter striker was picked for Argentina after Leo Messi’s injury.
The forward has dual citizenship and would’ve been available for the Azzurri, as he has not yet played for Argentina at senior level.
However, Icardi received the call from Argentina late last night for the World Cup qualifier against Peru on October 11.
He had not initially been picked, but is a late addition to the squad given that Messi is set to pull out with a thigh injury.
