Brescia have officially appointed Gigi Maifredi, as Coach Marco Giampaolo explains why he went AWOL for three days.
The club was thrown into chaos when Giampaolo failed to attend training or answer his phone on Sunday, Monday or Tuesday.
After appeals from President Gino Corioni, Giampaolo finally told his family that he was well on Tuesday evening.
It emerged he had tended his resignation, but after the club refused to accept it, he walked away, leaving members of his staff to take charge of the team for last night’s Serie B game against Carpi.
Today Brescia officially appointed Maifredi as Coach, though he was already working within the club as their technical director. He had been Coach of Juventus, but his last management job was in 2000.
Giampaolo has terminated his two-year contract by mutual consent, having only arrived over the summer, and broke his silence.
“I leave Brescia with bitterness,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“My decision, which was irrevocable, came because the club transformed the objectives from our original plans.”
