Napoli have revealed Christian Maggio will require knee surgery after picking up a meniscus injury.
The Italian international was seen by specialist professor Mariani at the Villa Stuart clinic in Rome on Monday.
After a number of tests, it was decided that the right-back would need an operation on Wednesday to fix the problem.
Napoli expect him to return to action when Serie A resumes in Week 8 after the international break. The Azzurri will face Roma that weekend.
Maggio, born in 1982, has featured in two League games and one Champions League tie so far this term.
