Vincent Candela has backed former club Roma to comfortably win the derby against Lazio on Sunday.

The ex-French international watched the Giallorossi train on Thursday and he’s in confident mood ahead of the Stadio Olimpico encounter.

“Roma will win 3-0 against Lazio,” the 39-year-old, who won a Scudetto with the Italian outfit, told Radio Mana Mana.

“I saw that the side are fired up and are in a good place psychologically.”

Roma have been criticised this summer for selling the likes of Marquinhos, Erik Lamela and Pablo Daniel Osvaldo.

Candela, however, likes the look of some of the new faces in Rome, as well as former Lille boss Rudi Garcia.

“Kevin Strootman [from PSV] has demonstrated that he is a guarantee,” Candela claimed. “I admit that I didn’t know him in detail because I only really follow the Italian championship.

“I also like the look of defender Mehdi Benatia [who was signed from Udinese].

“As for Garcia, he is a really prepared tactician. He talks a lot with his players and observes everything with great attention.

“He made his presence felt in all of the training sessions.”
