Matri targets World Cup 2014

Alessandro Matri is hoping his move to Milan will help secure him a place at the 2014 World Cup with Italy.

The striker moved to the Diavolo in late August after an €11m fee was agreed with Italian champions Juventus.

“I do dream of the national side,” admitted the 29-year-old. “And I want to give it a go. Doing well for my club will only increase my chances of convincing boss Cesare Prandelli

“I want to be an important player and I want to assume my responsibilities in this Milan side, a club where I was born and grew up in footballing terms.

“I always work hard to demonstrate my qualities.”

Matri has scored one goal in five caps for his country, but he hasn’t been a regular in the Giro Azzurro during Prandelli’s reign.

The centre-forward scored on his debut against the Ukraine in March 2011, while his last cap came in February 2012 versus USA.
