“It is tough to be off the field and I suffer a lot not being able to play,” he told Sport Mediaset.

“I am recovering, but I don’t know when I’ll be back. I hope soon. I cannot see the future, so I don’t know how the knee will react.

“Some ugly rumours have emerged about me over the last few months, but I prefer not to comment on them.”

Last week there was a debate between Roma medical staff and Italy Under-21 doctors over who was to blame for Destro’s on-going problems.
