Roberto Mancini has thrown his hat into the ring to become the next Coach of the Italian national side.

The Italian Football Federation have started their search for a new CT given that Cesare Prandelli is set to leave after World Cup 2014.

“Prandelli is there right now, so we’ll have to see what will happen in the future,” the man sacked by Manchester City at the end of last season told ANSA.

“But the national team is certainly not something secondary to anything, it can only be a priority,” he admitted.

“It will all depend on what the project for the future is, but, I repeat, the national side is always the national side.

“Today the tactician is Prandelli so we need to leave him in peace as he has got a hard year ahead of him.”

Italy will take on Bulgaria on Friday and then the Czech Republic on Tuesday as they look to secure a place at Brazil 2014.
