The striker merry-go-round with Fabio Quagliarella, Alberto Gilardino and Marco Borriello has broken down thanks to Antonio Conte.

Several sources including calcionews24, SportItalia and Tuttosport maintain Juventus” data-scaytid=”13″>Juventus Coach Conte refused to release Quagliarella.

The chain reaction was to bring Gilardino from Genoa to Juve, so Quagliarella would go to Roma and Borriello to Genoa.

It started to fall apart when Lazio” data-scaytid=”21″>Lazio dived in for Quagliarella and Genoa reportedly complained of having to pay Borriello’s full €4m per season wages.

Tonight it’s rumoured Conte pulled the plug on the whole affair by locking down Quagliarella, who also had offers from West Bromwich Albion, West Ham, Everton and Qatar.

Genoa therefore look likely to keep hold of Gilardino and Roma Borriello, unless they can find a suitable alternative.

The Italian transfer deadline is at 22.00 UK time.
