Alessandro Matri could get his Milan debut tonight against Cagliari. “It’s a unique emotion to be back where you grew up.”

The striker was signed from Juventus this week for €12m, but began his career in the Rossoneri youth academy.

“It has been 10 years and I gained a lot of experience elsewhere,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“It’s a unique emotion to be back where you grew up. There is also a Coach I already worked with, so there are many positive factors.”

It’s possible Matri will get his Milan debut against Cagliari, the club where he shot to fame under the guidance of Massimiliano Allegri.

“The Coach knows me and that will help me to settle in, but I am not in a privileged position because of that or my return to Milan after 10 years.

“I don’t expect to play more at Milan than I did at Juventus. I hope to, of course, but I am at the team’s disposal.”

Matri inherits the Number 9 jersey last worn by Pippo Inzaghi.

“The 32 was occupied, so the 9 is a nice alternative….”
