Toni: 'Secret to my success'

Luca Toni had a special dedication and revealed the secret to his success after a brace for Verona beat Milan.

The striker is 36 years old, but has found another new lease of life at the Stadio Bentegodi, securing last night’s 2-1 Serie A victory.

“The two goals are dedicated to my wife Marta and my daughter Bianca,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

He has been on the verge of retirement several times, yet is starting a new campaign as current Serie A top scorer.

“The key is how much I love this sport. You need passion and enjoyment in your football to want to keep going.

“Milan seem to bring me luck, as I made my Serie A debut against them too. I scored many goals with Fiorentina too, but these are important as they brought a great victory to the team on its return to the top flight.

“Before the game there was tension, as we knew that we were facing a very strong team. Milan have potential, but perhaps were a little fatigued after playing the Champions League play-off in Eindhoven this week.

“Mario Balotelli? In my view he can become one of the best in the world. He has already achieved so much and will get better. He’s still so young.”
