Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman breathes a sigh of relief, as his sprained ankle does not include ligament damage.

The Dutch international sustained the injury during Saturday’s 2-1 friendly win over Serie B side Ternana.

The Giallorossi were angry at the tough tackling on show in a friendly and feared the worst when Strootman went off with a sprained left ankle.

Tests have now shown it is a bad sprain, but there is crucially no ligament damage.

He will begin physiotherapy today, but looks to miss out on next week’s Serie A opener against Livorno.
