While Southampton are close to convincing Pablo Daniel Osvaldo, it’s reported Erik Lamela could snub Tottenham for a Roma renewal.

The Giallorossi directors have been working their connections in England for several weeks and this weekend look increasingly likely to part with Osvaldo.

The striker was dropped from Saturday’s 2-1 friendly win over Ternana, officially due to a muscular problem, and is said to be in constant phone contact with Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino.

They already worked together when Osvaldo was on loan at Espanyol and represents the strongest reason for the Italy international to choose the Saints.

Another aspect moving to convince Osvaldo is the improved wage deal worth £3m per season.

Tottenham remain interested in Osvaldo and could push harder if the Gazzetta dello Sport’s claims are true.

The ‘pink paper’ maintains this morning that Spurs’ primary target Lamela will be taken off the market and given a contract renewal.

Roma had been tempted by the €35m offer, but Lamela’s agent reportedly told the club he would prefer to remain in Italy with improved wages.

‘El Coco’ currently earns only €1.2m per season, so that is considerably less than the €4m proposed by Tottenham.

If Osvaldo is sold for €13m, then Roma would be less inclined to part with Lamela, particularly as he is a fan favourite compared to the unpopular Italy international.

Tottenham and Manchester United are also interested in Miralem Pjanic, but the midfielder has consistently been removed from the market.
