Pepe Reina saved an Arsenal penalty on his Napoli debut and is excited to join “an ambitious project in the Champions League.”

The goalkeeper arrived on loan from Liverpool this week and made his first appearance in a Partenopei jersey during today’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal.

He impressed on his debut, saving a Lukas Podolski penalty, though had few other chances to deal with until the final 20 minutes when fitness levels made the difference.

“I am happy for the penalty save, but above all happy for the team and a good result,” Reina told the official Napoli website.

“It was an intense and difficult match. We made a good impression in a very fiery atmosphere.”

The Spanish shot-stopper is settling in well at the Stadio San Paolo and looking forward to a new challenge.

“I have found a squad that works well. This is an exceptional group led very well by Rafa Benitez. I am happy to be back working with Benitez, to be part of an ambitious project and to play in the Champions League.”
