Ljajic and Rossi shine for Viola

Adem Ljajic, Giuseppe Rossi and Mario Gomez were on show as Fiorentina thrashed local side Trentino 9-0.

The Viola have been very active on the transfer market and could well be the surprise package of this season in Serie A.

Ljajic seemed to confirm the reports he has agreed to sign a contract extension, as he wore the captain’s armband in the second half.

Rossi opened the scoring in the first minute, firing in from a David Pizarro assist.

Manuel Pasqual’s angled drive was set up for him by Massimo Ambrosini, while Rossi completed his hat-trick from a Joaquin pass and with a splendid solo effort.

Gomez joined from Bayern Munich this month, but was twice prevented from celebrating his first Fiorentina goal by the woodwork.

Ljajic dominated the second half, scoring four goals including a free kick, a slalom between three defenders and a header.

Ukraine international Oleksandr Iakovenko was also on target, turning in after a Marcos Alonso effort was cleared off the line.
