Marek Hamsik is convinced his Napoli side can fight for the Scudetto even without the goals of Edinson Cavani.

The Uruguayan is set to be unveiled as a Paris Saint-Germain player later today after they agreed to pay €64m for the striker.

“Cavani has made his choice,” the attacking midfielder told the Gazzetta dello Sport. “It just means that a more motivated forward will come in to give us a hand and score goals.

“Obviously, though, it will be hard to sign another player like Edinson.”

The former Palermo centre-forward is not the only high profile exit given that boss Walter Mazzarri left to boss Inter last month.

“I’ve spoken a lot with new Coach Rafa Benitez,” the Slovakian added. “He’s told me what he wants from me. He’s asked for 15 goals and I hope to maintain that promise.”

Having won the Coppa Italia in 2012 and finishing second in Serie A last season, Hamsik has spoken of his intentions for the future.

“I want to win something else, to lift a trophy,” he continued. “We’ll battle for the Scudetto and we hope to go as far as possible in the Champions League.

“We are strong and we will strengthen even further. Napoli can take another step forward despite the tough competition.”
