The Bologna star thought he had netted two in the 2-2 draw with Uruguay, but FIFA awarded the opener to Davide Astori after he toe-poked the Diamanti free kick over the line.
Curiously, that goal was assigned to Astori using goal-line technology, which until now had not been tested at the tournament.
