Luis Suarez warns Uruguay have extra motivation to beat Italy in today’s Confederations Cup third place play-off.

The two sides go head-to-head in Salvador de Bahia at 17.00 UK time (16.00 GMT, 13.00 local).

“Every time we pull on the Celeste shirt we want to win and claiming third place would really mean a lot to us,” the Liverpool striker told FIFA.

“What’s more, it still rankles that we didn’t finish on the podium at South Africa 2010, when we lost to Germany.”

Uruguay were perhaps the revelation of that World Cup, but after losing the semi-final they were beaten 3-2 by Germany for third place.

Suarez is one of the six candidates for the Golden Ball as best player of the 2013 Confederations Cup.

The other nominees are Andrea Pirlo, Andres Iniesta, Sergio Ramos, Paulinho and Neymar.
