“This enthusiasm is great for the player and the team,” said Juventus chief Beppe Marotta as Carlos Tevez was mobbed by fans.

The Manchester City striker touched down at Malpensa Airport in Milan this afternoon and hundreds of fans were there waiting for him.

“This enthusiasm is exactly what we wanted, as it’s great for the player and the team,” director general Marotta told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“It really is a great signing.”

The Argentine is now travelling by car to Turin for a medical so he can complete the €12m (£10m) transfer and sign a three-year contract worth €5.5m per season.

Tevez waved to fans at the airport and they placed a Juventus scarf around his neck.

There was so much passion that police and the Juve Press officer pulled Tevez back into Terminal 1, so the car came round and picked him up on the runway instead.

He is expected to arrive in Turin at around 17.00 UK time (16.00 GMT). It is reported Tevez will wear the Number 10 jersey last held by Alessandro Del Piero.
