Thiago Silva admits he was impressed by Italy’s performance against Brazil and took the blame for Emanuele Giaccherini’s goal.

“Italy never stopped fighting, not even when two goals down, and that really impressed me,” the PSG defender told Sky Sport Italia.

The Seleçao won 4-2 in Salvador, though both teams are qualified for the Confederations Cup semi-final.

“I wish the Azzurri all the best, as I have many friends there and hope things go better for them in the next round.”

Giaccherini had temporarily equalised when running on to a spectacular Mario Balotelli backheel flick.

“Mario is an incredible player and I have no words to describe him. He makes the difference every time he wants to on the pitch and you rarely see him get it wrong. He was marked tightly, but still got that pass in.

“However, I got it wrong afterwards and should’ve closed on Giaccherini quicker, so we conceded a goal.”
