Palermo to dump Dossena

New Palermo sporting director Nicola Amoruso says they no longer need international full-back Andrea Dossena.

The 31-year-old only joined the club in January from Napoli, but he will be shown the door following their relegation to Serie B.

“We need to quickly return to the top flight and we want to do that with Gennaro Gattuso as the new Coach,” Amoruso told Radio CRC.

“We need to build an important squad for him, but Dossena certainly does not feature in our plans for the Palermo of next season.”

Dossena, capped 10 times by Italy, has also played for Udinese and Liverpool in the recent past. He featured in 11 Serie A games following his Rosanero arrival.

Amoruso was also inevitably asked about the future of star midfielder Josip Ilicic, a man who the club value at €15m.

“We have a lot of requests for him from Italian and European sides,” the former Juventus striker noted. “Napoli are one of them, but they are not the only team who have their eyes on him.”
