Italy boss Cesare Prandelli has given his thoughts on the possibility of Daniele De Rossi leaving hometown club Roma this summer.

The Roman, 29, was brought up through the capital club’s youth system and was expected to end his career with the only outfit he has represented.

However, the midfielder has had a problematic campaign at the Stadio Olimpico and there are suggestions that the Giallorossi want to get rid of his after tax €6m wages.

“I hope that Daniele stays at Roma,” Prandelli told RAI ahead of Friday’s World Cup qualifier in the Czech Republic.

“I know what Daniele feels for the city of Rome and for Roma.

“If he left then it may be a defeat for him on a personal level, but on a professional level he could actually improve.”

De Rossi, nicknamed ‘Capitan Futuro’, has been paired with Manchester City and Chelsea in recent months, while Real Madrid are long-time admirers.
