Lo Monaco’s Torino advice

Pietro Lo Monaco has advised Torino to cash in on Alessio Cerci and Angelo Ogbonna during this summer’s transfer window.

The Italian internationals are wanted men and Lo Monaco, who is a candidate to become the club’s new director general, has told Tuttosport that it may make sense to sell the duo.

“If Toro have received offers from important clubs then it would be hard to keep Cerci, it would also be counterproductive,” the former Catania, Genoa and Palermo official noted.

“When situations like this arise then you have to take advantage of them and consider the offers. What really matters is the club’s ability to find a replacement.

“If you don’t think that you have alternatives then you should keep the player, but, believe me, there are always other players who are available.”

Cerci’s future is unclear given that Fiorentina actually own the other 50 per cent of the attacker’s contract.

Meanwhile, centre-back Ogbonna is understood to be on the transfer radar of Italian giants Juventus and Milan.

Both could offer players as part of any proposed bid.

“If someone really wants one of your valuable players then you only sell them for money,” Lo Monaco continued.

“Then, with that cash, you can go and get players that you want rather than getting players who have been included in the transfer.”

Today’s La Stampa claims that Milan want both Cerci and Ogbonna, while the Granata are interested in the trio of Bartosz Salamon, Antonio Nocerino and Bakaye Traore.
