Walter Mazzarri admits he was “worried” when Napoli weren’t finding the breakthrough, but eventually beat Pescara 3-0.
“It is fundamental to break the deadlock in these games and I was worried, because I had put a lot of effort into firing the players up. The reaction of my men convinced me and I was able to relax,” said the Coach.
With Edinson Cavani suspended, Gokhan Inler, Blerim Dzemaili and Goran Pandev got the goals.
“Cavani is our hitman, so it’s normal that we’d miss him, but the team now has such a defined sense of what to do that it can manage without any of the top players. Maybe with him on the field we would’ve scored earlier.”
This victory means Juventus cannot mathematically clinch the title until next week, while Napoli are increasingly secure in second place.
“Juve are doing extraordinary things, so we couldn’t compete with them for the Scudetto. We only had a shaky moment, but overall are having a wonderful season.
“I won’t talk about next term. In my time here the team has grown exponentially, so I hope in future these players will also be able to handle two tournaments thanks to the experience they accumulated in recent years.”
