Sampdoria boss Delio Rossi says he is ready to shake the hand of Adem Ljajic this weekend – the Fiorentina player who he punched on the touchline last season.
Rossi was dismissed as Viola Coach in May following a game against Novara. After replacing Ljajic in the first half of that tie, he reacted furiously to the youngster’s ironic applause in his direction.
The two men, 11 months after their brawl, will come face-to-face this weekend when Doria host the Viola at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.
“I’ve not heard from Ljajic since that incident,” the tactician told La Repubblica on Thursday. “If the opportunity arises then I will shake his hand, but I won’t go looking for him.
“He’ll be an opponent just like any other and he is a player who I respect. And people tell me that he has matured a lot over the last year.
“I had nothing against him before and nothing now,” the former Palermo and Lazio Coach continued.
“I admit it was a horrible incident, but I considered it to be over at the time. There was nothing left after the game.”
Ljajic, 21, has scored seven goals in 25 League games this season.
