Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini has insisted that his side can avoid relegation come the end of the season.

The Rosanero are currently 18th in the table with 29 points, but sit just one point behind Siena in 17th.

And the Sicilian club's chief has claimed that his team's 1-1 draw with Catania last weekend can be the start of something special.

“Do I believe we can do it? Yes, of course,” he told calcissimo.com. “[Josip] Ilicic's goal can represent a rebirth for this team.

“I think that is the turning point of the season.

“It is key to our salvation.”

The 71-year-old also confirmed that Coach Giuseppe Sannino will be in charge next season – whatever happens.

“Sannino is fundamental to us. I am fully satisfied with his work.

“He is absolutely confirmed for next season.

“The plans have already been put in place and Sannino is an integral part.”
