Lazio goalkeeper Federico Marchetti didn’t make a save, but still went out of the Europa League to Fenerbahce. “We deserved better.”
A 1-1 draw played behind closed doors at the Olimpico sent Fenerbahce through to the semi-finals, as they had won the first leg 2-0 in Istanbul.
“We played a great game tonight and are disappointed because we deserved better,” Marchetti told Mediaset Premium.
“It’s a real shame, as we were penalised in the first leg. This is football, it’s a pity and we compliment Fenerbahce for going forward in the competition.
“It is only normal that in the first leg we struggled after going down to 10 men before half-time. We had held out well, unfortunately we conceded two late goals there.
“It’s a pity about tonight, because we certainly deserved something more. We have to look forward now. It is a tough blow, but we are strong and will play to the end with the conviction we’ll lift a trophy this season.”
