Italian newspapers claim UEFA delegates apologised to Lazio after the ‘errors’ made by Scottish referee William Collum against Fenerbahce.

The Biancocelesti were furious after the 2-0 Europa League quarter-final defeat on Thursday evening, in which Eddy Onazi was sent off, the Turkish side received a debatable penalty and Lazio were denied a spot-kick.

According to the Corriere dello Sport, Lazio director Igli Tare was talking to UEFA delegate Barry Taylor after the final whistle in the Sukru Saracoglu stadium.

Tare complained at the numerous refereeing errors and Taylor replied, “I know, I know.”

Coach Vladimir Petkovic pointed out the Biancocelesti have had a series of issues with the officials in the Europa League.

“In the last five games we have seen two red cards and four penalties. It is strange, but it happened.”

Among the incidents in the Istanbul game, Lazio complained that the penalty awarded to Fenerbahce was for an unintentional Stefan Radu handling offence, Onazi’s double booking was harsh and Egemen escaped a second yellow card for an awful challenge on Libor Kozak.
