Davide Santon and Simone Zaza have been sent home from the Italy Under-21 camp after picking up injuries.
The medical staff today ruled that neither player would be fit enough for the two friendly matches against Russia on Friday and Ukraine next Monday.
Ascoli striker Zaza suffered a left buttock strain during last night’s Serie B game, while Newcastle United defender Santon was diagnosed with a first degree lesion to the left thigh after pulling up in training.
The Azzurrini will welcome their Russian counterparts to the Stadio Tombolato in Cittadella on Friday evening, kick-off at 20.00 GMT.
