Karl-Heinz Riedle has criticised Bayern Munich for releasing Lazio striker Miroslav Klose at the end of his contract.

The German international joined the capital city club in the summer of 2011 after his deal with Bayern expired.

“Miroslav is a great player,” former striker Riedle, who also played for Lazio and Germany, told Radio Sei.

“He always scored goals in Germany and he plays with his heart. He’s strong in the air, he has a good turn of pace – he’s complete.

“Bayern made a big mistake to free themselves of him, meanwhile Lazio made a great signing.”

The now 34-year-old, currently injured, has scored 23 goals in 46 League games for the Biancocelesti.
