Stefano Pioli felt Bologna deserve to take all the credit for their victory away to Inter, as they learned from difficult moments.

Stefano Pioli felt Bologna deserve to take all the credit for their victory away to Inter, as they learned from difficult moments.

“We can be optimistic and I’m so very happy for my players, as only now are they reaping the rewards for all their hard work,” said the Coach after a 1-0 win at San Siro.

“They were criticised so much at times, but we deserved this victory and played great football as well as showing generosity and heart when under pressure.

“The results helped improve our confidence. This team has quality, but above all we grew up amid some tight defeats. It was easy in those situations to lose our way, but we kept our heads and now it is paying off.

“Now we want to keep pushing, as for seven months we were barely keeping our heads above water and now we can breathe easy.”

Bologna also won here last season and are fast becoming Inter’s bête noir.

“Winning at San Siro is such an emotional moment and shows you how much this team cares about achieving an amazing result.

“We knew Inter were wounded and would come out fighting, but we were ready for them. Alberto Gilardino had a muscular problem at the break and tried to carry on, but after his goal I decided not to risk him any more. Don’t forget there are more important games than this coming up for Bologna.”
