Sampdoria revelation Mauro Icardi has reiterated his desire to play for Argentina and not Italy at international level.
The striker was born in the South American country, but he has the necessary paperwork to represent the Azzurri if he desired.
“Argentina is the priority,” the 20-year-old told Mondo Pallone. “I dream of wearing the shirt of my home nation. I’ve already worn it for the Under-20 side.
“I have spoken to Argentina boss Alejandro Sabella, we saw each other after the game against Roma,” the former Barcelona youth added.
“I’ve not spoken to Italy’s Cesare Prandelli though. I know that Italy have expressed an interest in me, but they did that by contacting my club.
“I’m also aware of what Prandelli said about me in a Press conference.”
Icardi, who reports suggest will join Inter at the end of the season, has nine goals in 21 League games this term.
