Italian international Domenico Criscito is expected to be out for the rest of the season after damaging knee ligaments.
The Zenit St Petersburg left-back picked up the injury on Thursday in a friendly against Serie A outfit Siena. He’ll need an operation.
“It looks very serious,” Zenit boss Luciano Spalletti noted.
It is unclear how long the player will be absent for, but there are suggestions that he could be out for six to eight months.
The 26-year-old thus looks unlikely to be a part of Italy’s Confederations Cup squad at the end of the season.
The former Juventus and Genoa man had only just returned to action after a calf issue ruled him out for four weeks.
