Sebastian Giovinco has told his Juventus critics that he deserves his place in the plans of boss Antonio Conte.

Giovinco has been heckled by supporters this season, including during Sunday’s 3-0 win over Siena which saw him lift his finger to his lips after scoring his goal.

“The numbers are on my side,” said Giovinco to La Stampa in reference to the fact that he is the club’s top scorer and only Andrea Barzagli has played in more games than him this term.

“I can’t answer why, for example, there are those who say I’m not good enough for Juve. The season is positive for me and the side.

“We’re top of the League with the best defence and the second best attack, while we are still in Europe.”

Giovinco was brought back to Turin in the same summer that saw club legend Alessandro Del Piero leave.

“I’m condemned by the fact that there are always people who talk to me about Del Piero,” the Atomic Ant added.

“But I’ve always instantly said that I am Giovinco. Alex is unique, it would be difficult to match him.

“Will I stay? I’m not a director so I can’t answer that question. But I’ve only just arrived and I can’t see myself anywhere else…”

Giovinco was also asked to clarify his silencing gesture at the weekend. “It was aimed at my critics, not the fans,” he explained.

“If you look at the pictures you can see that I didn’t turn to the Curva, but to a specific section. The fans are free to jeer who they want.”
