Paolo Cannavaro slammed the San Paolo pitch, but insisted “the championship isn’t over” after Napoli’s 0-0 with Sampdoria.
The Partenopei would’ve closed up to within two points of leaders Juventus with a win today, but were held to a goalless draw and jeered off the field by their fans.
“It is a missed opportunity, but the championship isn’t over,” assured captain Cannavaro.
“Our real regrets are that we cannot play on a pitch that is worthy of Napoli.”
The club confirmed the Stadio San Paolo turf will be completely re-laid next week, as it was breaking up badly during the game with lumps of grass seen flying around.
“Sampdoria came here to get a point, but that is fair enough for their situation. We tried, but unfortunately it is difficult against a team that is closed up.”
