Coach Devis Mangia was pleased with “a great victory over one of the favourites” as Italy beat the German Under-21 side.
The friendly in Andria was a warm-up for the European Under-21 Championships in June and decided by Fabio Borini.
“This was a great victory over one of the favourites for the tournament,” said Mangia after the 1-0 win.
“We put in a fine performance against a very physical side and in my view it is hard to do better than this. The lads deserve real praise.
“This squad has quality and when the important games come along, they have never played with the wrong attitude.”
Liverpool striker Borini has been suffering from injuries and rushed to the touchline to celebrate the goal by hugging Mangia.
“Fabio is a spectacular guy and really deserved that goal. I am happy for him, as he suffered a lot over the last few months and this is his first prize, certainly not his last.”
