Gian Piero Gasperini believes Palermo can turn their season around after numerous January signings, starting from this afternoon’s game against Atalanta. Click here for a match preview.
The Sicilians have been the most active side in the transfer window, picking up players like Mauro Formica, Stefano Sorrentino, Mauro Boselli, Salvatore Aronica, Andrea Dossena, Diego Fabbrini and Alejandro Faurlin.
“The reinforcements are already at my disposal, so there’s no need to delay their introduction,” said the Coach.
“Everyone is motivated, even if we need to evaluate their fitness levels, as some of them haven’t played for a while. In any case, they bring renewed enthusiasm to the squad.
“I now have several options open to me, even to make changes during a game. We had wanted to do even more on the market, but it was difficult. I am glad the squad has been improved.”
Gasperini will be on the bench after his ban for insulting the referee was turned into a fine on appeal, but Fabrizio Miccoli is suspended because he was sent off from the bench against Cagliari.
Other banned players for this afternoon’s game with Atalanta are Steve Von Bergen and Aronica, while Abel Hernandez and Andrea Mantovani are long-term absentees.
“We do have a bit of an emergency in attack, so either Formica or Boselli will start,” revealed Gasperini.
Palermo squad for Atalanta: Benussi, Brichetto, Sorrentino; Dossena, Garcia, Goldaniga, Morganella, Munoz, Nelson; Anselmo, Arevalo Rios, Barreto, Donati, Faurlin, Formica, Ilicic, Kurtic, Sanseverino; Boselli, Dybala, Fabbrini
