The right-back has been linked with a January move to the Russians and his agent has admitted that a switch is possible – even if far from certain.

“There has been preliminary contact, but there is still work to do,” Andrea D’Amico told Sport Italia when quizzed about his client.

“Zenit know the player very well and their interest has been noted. The fees involved? There’s no economical problem.”

Zenit, bossed by Italian tactician Luciano Spalletti, are understood to have offered the player a deal until 2017 worth €2.5m a campaign.

Meanwhile, fellow Milan full-back Luca Antonini is being paired with a possible move to Galatasaray.
