Marcello Lippi has recently faced Didier Drogba in China and urged Milan to make him an offer, as “he’d form a great partnership” with Stephan El Shaarawy.

The Ivory Coast international is currently training with Chelsea during the close season and could well leave Shanghai Shenhua.

“If Robinho and Alexandre Pato really are leaving Milan, then I’d see Drogba doing better for the Rossoneri than Juventus,” Lippi told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“He played against my Guangzhou Evergrande recently and is still a beast. He really makes the difference on the field.

“Drogba would be a precious addition to the squad both in Serie A and the Champions League. In technical terms, he’d form a great partnership with El Shaarawy.”

However, as with the earlier interest from Juventus, Lippi does see one rather large obstacle.

“He didn’t choose to go to China by following his heart or making a footballing decision. It was purely for the money, as he earns €1m per month. Do you think he’d agree to halve his wages to come and play in Italy? I have my doubts.”

Lippi is still keeping a close eye on Serie A football from China and has been thoroughly impressed with Milan’s new star.

“El Shaarawy reminds me of Alessandro Del Piero. They both love to start from the left and cut in to seek goals with curling shots. He hasn’t got Del Piero’s quality yet, but is growing and could be even more explosive in attack.

“Juventus are the strongest side in Serie A. They might have a few problems in February when the Champions League commitments begin again, but with Antonio Conte they have rediscovered that attacking fury.

“This side could be compared to my Juve, but also those of Giovanni Trapattoni and Fabio Capello.”
