The agent of Leonardo Bonucci has confirmed that Juventus will definitely sign a new defender in January.
A fresh stopper looked likely after Lucio rescinded his contract at the start of this week and now Giorgio Chiellini could be out of action for the next three months.
“Having sent Lucio away and given Chiellini’s injury, Juventus will buy a defender next month,” Davide Torchia told TMW.
“Chiellini’s injury is disappointing and not only because of his ability, but because of the great cohesion within the Juve backline.”
The Italian champions use a three-man defence of Andrea Barzagli, Bonucci and Chiellini.
The only centre-back alternatives currently in their squad are Martin Caceres and converted midfielder Luca Marrone.
