Stefano Pioli put Bologna’s shock Coppa Italia victory over holders Napoli down to “hard work and some good fortune.”

The Rossoblu had already won 3-2 at the San Paolo in Serie A on Sunday, but this evening earned a 2-1 result to knock the trophy holders out of the competition.

“I can only compliment my players for a great performance,” said the Coach. “It was down to hard work and some good fortune.

“Clearly, you need a bit of luck and we had that tonight. I saw great generosity and spirit from the squad. It was a great opportunity and we took it. I have always believed in the quality of these lads.”

Bologna now go into a prestigious Quarter-Final with Inter.

“Before that we have two very important Serie A games against Parma and Genoa. We’ve got a little time to prepare and I hope to have some more players back from injury to choose from.

“With the same attitude we showed this evening, we will try to play our game against Inter.”
