AIC President Damiano Tommasi has hit out at the players involved in the Calcioscommesse scandal.

The leader of the Italian Footballers' Association has claimed that the individuals involved in match-fixing have tarnished the image of football on the peninsula.

“It is one of the lowest chapters in world football,” he told reporters today. “With these events we have sent some terrible messages.

“We live in a world where the temptations and pressures are strong.

“But it can't be justified for a lowly paid Lega Pro player, or any player, to discuss throwing a match.

“That just cannot be justified.”
