Gian Piero Gasperini is hopeful that Palermo can provide him with improved options for the squad during the January transfer window.

Heading into Saturday evening’s trip to Udinese, the tactician has reflected that the current group of players is vulnerable if injury and suspension have an impact.

“Do we lack depth in the squad? In the team there are no players that have particular features so in January we will try to find some alternatives,” confirmed the former Genoa boss to reporters today.

“Dybala is a very promising young player, but he has alternated between doing well and being in the shadow in games, but that is normal for his age.

“If we look for alternatives in the squad we find ourselves in trouble. There is a need for players with different characteristics.

“Tomorrow we are also without Morganella through suspension. These are situations that have been repeated from since I have arrived, but I have not entered into controversy, we know that in January there will be the opportunity to fill some gaps.”

Gasperini was talking ahead of taking his side north to Udine. Whilst expressing his belief in his hosts’ returning strength, he has encouraged his team to aim for three points.

“Udinese have had their problems, but they are now recovering, they have brought back some players from injury and they should be focused now.

“This is a game within our reach and we want to do well, we must have confidence in ourselves and not think negatively.”
