The Nerazzurri went 2-0 up when Fredy Guarin and Diego Milito pounced on defensive errors, but Edinson Cavani’s tap-in could not complete a comeback at San Siro.
“Andrea Stramaccioni’s side did well to take all their scoring opportunities,” sighed Mazzarri after the 2-1 defeat.
“The game was in the balance right to the end, so that was what made the difference. The second half was our monologue. I complimented the lads for their performance, but pointed out they have got to be more determined in front of goal.
“Napoli had more possession, but Inter were clinical and took their chances. I am happy with the way the team played, but disappointed at the result.
“We paid the price for a distraction on that first goal. The Nerazzurri have more experienced players who are accustomed to battles at this level. We’ve got to improve in that respect.”
Inter move ahead of the Partenopei into second place, though the Coach is not letting go of a Scudetto dream.
