Massimiliano Allegri admits Zenit “were probably more motivated” than already-qualified Milan in the Champions League tonight.

“The team played fairly well and we conceded a goal that was avoidable with a little more attention and reactivity,” said the Coach after a 1-0 home defeat.

“We had two really good chances in the first half. Admittedly, we lost our shape a bit in the last 10 minutes, but that was normal.

“It was important for us to play a game like this in order to help us grow. Zenit gave away 10 more free kicks than us, which says it all. They were probably more motivated.”

While Milan were already certain of second place in Group C, Zenit needed a result to be sure of qualifying for the Europa League. Anderlecht drew 2-2 away to leaders Malaga in the other game.

“We were lacking something on the flanks tonight. We continue to concede too many goals and that remains our biggest weakness. We’ve got to work on improving that aspect.”
